New Appointments at Ganado & Associates

The Government of Malta has recently announced plans to build a near-shore 45 to 95MW windfarm off the northern coast of Malta as well as to develop two other smaller sites on land pursuant to its renewable energy target under the EU's 20 20 by 2020 package.

Dr Manfred Galdes has been appointed as the new Director of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit by its Board of Governors. Dr Galdes replaces Mr Frank Caruana following the latter’s retirement.

On the 31st July 2008, Legal Notice 180/2008 entitled the Prevention of Money Laundering and Funding of Terrorism Regulations, 2008 (“PMLFTR”) was published in the Government Gazette (Number 18, 289 on the 31st July, 2008). The Legal Notice came into effect immediately since the deadline imposed by the EU for implementation of the EU’s Third Money Laundering Directive (“3MLD”) was the 15th December, 2007.

Legal notice 52 of 2008 has brought the INTERNATIONAL CARRIAGE OF GOODS BY ROAD ACT (Chapter 486 of the Laws of Malta) into force.

VOLUNTARY ORGANISATIONS ACT, 2007 (ACT NO. XXII OF 2007) has been brought into force as from the 11th of December, 2007 (Legal Notice 406 of 2007)
